Mission

Theatre Arts Conservatory, working in partnership with Plan-B Theatre Company, is a 501(c)(3) Utah Nonprofit dedicated to inspiring young people through performing arts education. We believe that the study of the performing arts nurtures the development of essential life skills as well as creating a discriminating audience for the future.

Why train at Theatre Arts Conservatory?:

Quality Training - Theatre Arts Conservatory was founded in 2003 in response to concerns from local college theatre professors about the level of preparedness in the students auditioning for their programs. Although many of the students had a long list of production experience very few had been taught the skills that make a well trained actor. Theatre is one of the only performing arts where very frequently the house is built without laying the foundation. No one would expect a young piano player to perform a Beethoven Concerto without first learning to read music and play scales. However, many theatre programs focus on putting their student in production after production without ever taking real time to study the craft of acting. At Theatre Arts Conservatory our focus is training. Classes are about learning the craft of acting, not putting on a costume and memorizing a few lines. Students study acting theories from Stanislavski to Bogart ascertaining the skills to become an “actor” not just a “performer”.

Quality Instructors - Theatre Arts Conservatory instructors are professional actors, directors and experienced theatre educators. All instructors are required to belong to the professional actors union A.E.A. (Actor’s Equity Association), have experience teaching in a college theatre program or trained in a highly respected college theatre program and currently work in professional theatre.

Performance Opportunities - Although skill building is the foundation for a well trained actor, the training cannot be complete without the opportunity to perform. Multiple productions are offered throughout the year so students who have been working hard in class have a chance to apply those skills in a professional performance setting. In addition to class work students may participate in the annual Utah Shakespearean Festival Shakespeare Competition, staged readings, “Student Slam”, our annual touring production and summer production classes.

Personalized Training - Theatre Arts Conservatory total student cap is 60 students. Every instructor has a personal relationship with each of their students and works to support every student’s individual needs. Theatre Arts Conservatory is not looking to fill as many classes, with as many students as possible, in order to bring in more tuition. Our goal is to create a nurturing community for a select group of students with a true love for and dedication to the theatre.

Future Opportunities - Theatre Arts Conservatory students are graduating with the skills needed to continue their training at some of the most respected theatre programs in the world. Recent graduates have been accepted at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and New Zealand Drama School. They can also be seen on Broadway, in Broadway Touring Shows, in feature films, national television series and local commercials. Of course, it is not our expectation that every student will leave Theatre Arts Conservatory to pursue an acting career. However, it is our goal that those who wish to continue their acting will have the skills to pursue their dream at the highest possible level. And those who have chosen another path, will have gained invaluable life skills for any career.

Partnership - Theatre Arts Conservatory works in partnership with Plan-B Theatre Company.

Plan-B Theatre Company develops and produces unique and socially conscious theatre.
